Wash day talk

So I washed my hair on Sunday and overall it went normally. As I stated in an earlier post that I was going to do a black tea rinse because I noticed some shedding that felt like more then normal.

-I did not pre-poo or do a hot oil treatment this past wash day just because I was lazy.....not good! I love doing hot oil treatments and if I could I would do them every wash day but I dont feel like my hair needs that many oil treatments so I do them every other week.
-I used the same shampoo that I have been using for the past couple of months. The Nexxus shampoo. I mix my shampoo with tea tree oil because this oil is a known anti-fungus. By diluting my shampoo with an oil I have noticed that the shampoo is not as harsh on my hair but is still able to clean my scalp. I think this shampoo mix maybe my new staple shampoo......but I do not want to speak to sooner.
-After my shampoo I did my black tea rinse. I put some of the black tea into a spray bottle so that I could reach my roots and not just the length of my hair. I part my hair into fours and spray each section making sure that I get my roots. I pour the rest of the tea on the length of my hair and let it sit on my hair for about 5 to 10 minutes. It makes your hair feel hard like you are doing a protein treatment. After the 10 minutes are up I wash the black tea out of my hair and add some conditioner and my hair feels back to normal.
-I deep conditioned with a new deep conditioner. Queen Helene Cholesterol Hair Conditioning Cream. I have to use it a couple more times before I can give a review but I like it so far. I mixed it with my regular oils and sat under the dryer for 45 minutes and washed it out. Then add Roux to my hair which is also a new product I am using that I will review.
-I detangled and used my normal leave ins.

Happy Hair Journey. See you guys next post. This is just a picture of my hair air drying after I detangled it with leave-ins in it.

I use about five tea bags in about three cups of water. I put the water in a pot and let the water start boiling before I put the black tea into it. I let my black tea sit over night.

I got some new Deep Conditioners so I am going to be using a new one tomorrow but I dont know which one to use yet. I will let you guys know which one I pick tomorrow and how I feel about it.

Product review on ORS Hair Masque

I love my deep conditioners that I have been using lately but I am kind of a product junkie and I like trying new products. So I went to my local Beauty supply store and they were giving out free samples of ORS products. I picked up a couple samples of the Hair Masque because I had heard some good reviews on YouTube. And I had never tried a masque before.

So lets first start off with the ORS Hair Masque. I got 4 small samples but I only used two of them in my deep conditioner mix because the product is very thick kind of like a lotion. On the front it says that it is an intense treatment for heat and color damaged hair. I thought that this was perfect because I had just got a relaxer the week before and flat ironed my hair.

On the back it says this product: "is an intense treatment conditioner that helps restore heat and color damaged hair. Infused with natural ingredients, this hair masque will revitalize and detangle the hair, leaving it soft, shiny and smooth."

Pros: I loved that it was a thick deep conditioner. It did not wash out of my hair like some other deep conditioners that are lighter. The smell was nice and not too strong. It also mixed well with my oils that I always add to my deep conditioner. A small amount of this product goes a long way, so you will it your money's worth. Easy to detangle.

Cons: Should not use weekly. I would not use this on dry hair because it is so thick and would be hard to put on without the slip you get from water. It felt more like a light protein treatment to my hair. Did not have much new growth so I don't know how it would react to my new growth. My hair felt a little hard after it was air dried.

I have 2 more samples that I plan on using when I get closer to my next relaxer so I can see how it reacts with my new growth. The person who gave me that samples told me that I should only use it every 4 to 8 weeks. So if I was to buy this product I would try to find a small size since I would not be using it than much as I do my weekly deep conditioner.

Hope you enjoyed this review and leave comments if you have tried product and how you felt about it!!
Have a happy hair journey!!!

Wash Day

I washed my hair today. I did a hot oil treatment as my pre-poo. I used olive oil, grapeseed oil and castor oil. I heated up this mixture up in the mircowave for 30 seconds then I put it on my scalp and the length of my hair. I then put a plastic cap on and sat under the dryer for 30 minutes. I washed my hair with Nexxus shampoo and did a black tea rinse to reduce my shedding, even though it was not alot. I left the black tea on my hair for about ten minutes then I rinsed it out. I t-shirt dry my hair for about 10 minutes to remove the excess water.

I used a new deep conditioner today which was ORS hair masque. I will do a review on it later. After I put the conditioner all over my hair I put a plastic cap on and sat under the dryer for about 30 minutes. After that I eat and did other things so I would say that it was on my hair for about 2 hours in total.

I got back in the shower and washed it out of my hair. I finger detangled my hair a little bit in the shower. Once out of the shower I t-shirt dryed my hair for 10 minutes then I detanlged with Mane and Tail detangler with a wide tooth comb.

I put a scarf and air dryed my hair. It was a good wash day all in all!

Till next Relaxer.....

I usually get a perm every 12 to 16 weeks. Since I just got a relaxer last week I thought that it would be a good idea to make a list of goals and techniques and products that I want to use during this stretch.

1. I think that I need to be more gentle and slower when I am detangling my hair. Even though I was not loosing alot of hair I think that if I am more gentle I will see a decrease of number of hairs on the floor of my bathroom.
2. I will be trying out some new deep conditioners.
3. More black tea rinse when I see more and more new growth
4. I want to get the seamless combs for detangling. Even though I heard that they are about $20 and that is alot for a wide tooth comb when there are bills to be paid lol! But I am on a journey and it will only benefit my hair.
5. I want to do hot oil treatments at least once every other week and if I like how my hair feels I will move them to every week.
6. Pre-poo more often. I was very bad with the pre-pooing this stretch.
7. And the big one that I may not be able to do this stretch is buy a streamer.

I think those goals are in reason and hopefully they will help me become full BSL by feb when my next relaxer is.

It is good to make long term goals but it is also good to made short term goals!!!

Talk to you guys next post!!!!

New read!!

So I just got Hair Care Rehab by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy! I cant wait to start reading it because it covers alot of different topics about hair care and different hair types. Its always good to have a hair care book of some type because you will have all the information in one place, instead of looking up different youtube videos and blogs.

I read her other book called the Science of Black Hair and I liked that book alot. One reason maybe because I majored in science so I have a soft spot for it lol! And I feel like knowing the science behind hair and your hair type will help you have a smooth hair care journey.

Remember Knowledge is Key!!!!

First Relaxer

So I went to the hair salon yesterday to get my first relaxer after starting my hair journey. I was so nervous that the hair dresser was going to say that my hair look horrible. He was combing though my hair a little rough. He said that I had a lot of new growth that I should not of waited that long in between relaxer but after looking at my hair he said that it looked healthy and that I did not have any serious breakage. He only had to trim 1/2 of an inch off the ends. I thought that was good because I usually get an inch or more trimmed off. After the trim I think I gained about an inch and a half length.

Even though the hair dress did not think I should wait so long to get a relaxer I think I will continue to get relaxers every 15 weeks post. That means I will only get 4 relaxers a year and that is not too much to me.

After are some pictures of my hair. The one on the top is my hair at the beginning of my hair journey July 28th 2012. The one on the bottom is my hair after my first relaxer on Nov. 9th 2012.

New growth/ Regimen the week before my Creamy crack

This week before my Relaxer on Friday I have not been doing anything to my hair but moisturizing my end and sealing with my oil of choice. I have not been oiling or massaging my scalp because I do not want to touch my scalp too much so the Relax does not burn. I remember when I use to think that if the relaxer burned it was taking and working better and my hair would come out straighter.......boy was my thinking back then so WRONG LOL!!!!!

Here are some random pictures of my new growth...........I am about 15 weeks post!!!! Hope you guys enjoy the pictures!!!

Yea there was a lot going on in there lol!!!

Pre-Relaxer day

So I am getting my first relaxer since I have started my regimen for healthier and longer hair. I have not put a flat iron or a blower dryer to my hair since July 28th. So I have just been washing my hair and letting it air dry 100% of the time. I have been M&S every night and I always wear my satin/silk scarf.....I even sleep on a satin pillowcase for extra protection lol!!! I deep conditioned every Thursday on dry hair then co-wash. I washed my hair every Sunday and deep condition on damp hair.

The thing that I am scared of is my ends. They looked very healthy when I started my hair journey. I just don't want them to look thin and look like I need a trim. I have been wearing my hair up in buns and up dos about 99% of the time to protect them. So I hope I was able to maintain them and not need to get a trim tomorrrow!!!

I wonder if everyone felt this nervous about their first relaxer lol! Well fingers crossed and I will talk to you guys tomorrow.....

Creamy Crack addict

Hello everyone!!! My name is Dominique and I am new to this blogging thing so bare with me as I get the hang of things. The main reason the I wanted to start blogging is because I started my hair journey on July 28th 2012 and I heard that blogging or writing things down can really help with having a great hair journey. I have always been very crazy when it came to my hair. I did not let anyone else, but my hairdresser, touch my hair. I alway wore it straight down nothing special and wrapped it everynight I always washed my hair every two week with a shampoo and conditioner, then I would blow dry and flat iron my hair. I never deep conditioned my hair unless I went to the hair salon. As you can see I was not taking good care of my hair, but in my mind back then I was doing everything right but I still could not figure out why my hair never grew past shoulder length. The end of my last year of college I got my first sew in and I fall in love!!! I wore sew ins for the whole year of 2011 and some of 2012. I loved the fact that I did not have to do much to the fake hair. While I had the weave in I went four to five monthes without washing my hair...............NASTY I know! smh. But in my mind back then I thought that dirty hair grow faster.

One day I was being nosey, as always lol! And I came across ulovemegz instagram pictures. I fall in love with her hair and wanted my too look just like her's. I found her youtube channel which lead me to other youtube channels about hair and by the end of that day I was hooked on healthy hair care. I joined couple hair sites and just started learning and reading everything I could about healthy hair. I did my research for about a month before I started my healthy hair journey.

This is a picture of my hair when I first started my hair journey on July 28th 2012. I would say that I was full APL.

This coming friday will mark 15 weeks post and I will be getting my fix of that lovely CREAMY CRACK!!!! I have not blow dryed or flat ironed my hair since this picture because I wanted to give my hair a break from all the heat. I hope the no heat and air drying 100% has helped me to retain length. I also bun or wear my hair up about 90% of the time since this picture was taken!!!!

Fingers crossed hope that I am grazing BSL after my Relaxer on friday!!! Cant wait to see how my hair looks and see if all the new things I have learned and my new regimen will pay off!!!!

I will be posting pictures of my hair on Friday or sometime this weekend.
